About the County of St. Paul
Located in the Northeast, 208 kilometers from Edmonton, our communities are diversified in mixed agriculture, oil and gas industry and a great many tourist locations. Our borders touch Lakeland County to the north, the Municipal District of Bonnyville to the north and east, to the south the County of Vermilion River and the County of Two Hills, and to the west the County of Smoky Lake. The first Council meeting of the County of St. Paul No. 19 was hosted January 3, 1962, with representation from seven divisions, spreading across 3,297.74 square kilometers. Our main trade centres are the towns of St. Paul and Elk Point. Nine smaller hamlets consisting of Ashmont, Heinsburg, Lafond, Lindbergh, Lottie Lake, Mallaig, St. Edouard, St. Lina, and St. Vincent provide some services to local residents, including Volunteer Fire Department fire protection to their areas. For health service, our County is under the responsibility of the Aspen Regional Health Authority, with active hospital services at the St. Therese Hospital in St. Paul and the Elk Point Health Centre in Elk Point.
The St. Paul Health Unit provides services throughout our communities. The St. Paul and District Ambulance provides services to the central and northwest sections and the Elk Point and District Ambulance serves the east part of the County. According to Statistics Canada, the 2006 federal population figure for our municipality is 5,925.
