Kamloops Residential School Official Statement

On behalf of the residents and council of the County of St Paul, it is with a deep sense of sorrow and sympathy that we mourn with our Indigenous friends and neighbours, and the wider Indigenous communities across Canada, the discovery of the 215 young lives that were lost at the Kamloops Residential School.

It is not for us to try and give context to the history, our job is to give our support and understanding as we continue to build our relationships and our bridges of understanding through the process of reconciliation.

Our commitment as leaders within our communities is not to try and erase history but to work hard to provide a community, a country, a world, that provides equal rights and equal opportunities for all that call Canada or Kanata home.

The National Indian Residential School Crisis Line is available for the former students and those affected. Emotional and crisis referral can be accessed by calling the 24 hour support line at 1-866-925-4419
