Opportunity: Temporary Waste Management Truck Driver/Labourer

This position is a full-time temporary position for a minimum of 4 months with a 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. shift, Monday to Friday except on civic holidays. Under the supervision and work direction of the Manager of Waste and Agricultural Services and the Agricultural Fieldman, the Waste Management Truck Driver/Labourer is responsible for maintaining a routine schedule to collect municipal waste at private residents, businesses, and municipal collection facilities and emptying bins or waste truck contents into the assigned waste management facility. This aspect of the position may be one day a week all the way up to everyday of the week depending on scheduling.

This must be completed all while operating the County waste management vehicles in a safe and responsible manner and understanding that this role is a safety sensitive position. Additional duties during the remainder of the week will include the collection of recyclables and other materials from one County facility to another, pushing up metal piles and Class 3 landfills with a skid steer, bailing cardboard, helping out in agricultural areas as needed, helping maintain transfer stations, keeping vehicles fueled, lubricated, and serviced, and ensuring that pre- and post-trip inspections are completed in accordance with the policies and procedures of the County.

The position must possess either a Class 1 or Class 3 valid Alberta driver’s licence.  Preference will be giving to candidates with experience in hauling and operating a Skid Steer. The Waste Management Truck Driver/Labourer is responsible for adhering to Health and Safety Legislation and the County of St. Paul safe work policies and procedures always, ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public and environment.

The following are considered assets or preferences in this position:

  • Professional driving course certification (PDI).
  • Light equipment operator.
  • Transfer station Basics certificate.
  • Landfill Basics certificate.
  • Handling of Household Hazards Waste certificate.
  • Driving experience on front load or roll off waste truck.
  • Knowledge of geographical layout of County.
