Mallaig is the host of Haying in the 30's Cancer Support Society. This Society was formed to help cancer victims financially with their expenses incurred when faced with this disease. Haying in the 30's is held every year on August long weekend with thousands of people enjoy the activities, food and comradery. Your admission is a donation to the cause.

As they hear of people diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatments, they do their best to help them out with cost of transportation, lodging, fuel cost,etc.

In order to qualify, you must have cancer and are taking treatments. Unfortunately, they have had to make drastic changes to the processing structure for recipient payments.

The Hamlet was one of the many communities that spawned due to the construction of the railroad in Western Canada during the early 1900's. As the 20th century progressed, the railway has been removed, and has been replaced by the Iron Horse Trail, which is a long, recreational trail intended for all-terrain vehicles.
