Rural Public Transit Solutions survey extended to December
The County of St. Paul, Towns of St. Paul and Elk Point, and Summer Village of Horseshoe Bay are still collecting resident input on possible rural public transit solutions throughout the St. Paul Region.
The survey is open to ages 15-75+ and can be found here: https://forms.office.com/r/LxRnx04dg9
What to expect in the survey
- Estimated to take 7 minutes to complete
- Questions on demographics (e.g. age, area you live in, number of household members)
- Questions about current travel habits and needs (e.g. if you have a driver’s license, where you travel for work, school, and healthcare)
- Ranking new, potential public transit options for the region
Feasibility Study through STEP Economic Development Alliance
Along with municipal partners, STEP is conducting the Rural Public Transit Solutions survey to understand rural transportation challenges across the St. Paul Region. Before any public transit options can be explored and implemented, we must consider transportation needs and travel habits in our community, which can include:
- Seniors with limited ability to travel, but who require consistent specialty healthcare services outside of the region;
- Newcomers going through the process of obtaining an Alberta driver’s license, while still needing to conduct their day-to-day business;
- Indigenous community members who can find transit into town, but are not always able to find transit back in a timely manner;
- Youth with limited ability to travel, but who are working to build up their independence;
- Post-secondary students who could not obtain student- or affordable housing near their main campus, increasing their commute costs; and
- Low-income residents living in affordable rural housing, which can affect their ability to access urban services.
By looking at transit challenges through multiple perspectives, possible solutions become more accessible and inclusive to the St. Paul Region’s communities.
Your input will be greatly beneficial in determining what public transportation options are feasible and could be implemented in the region!
