Introducing the Predator Management Incentive Program

The County of St. Paul, through the St. Paul Fish and Game Association, is offering the Predator Management Incentive Program to County agricultural producers who are experiencing predator pressures on livestock – specifically, from coyotes or wolves.

This project has been financially supported by the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society’s Wildlife Management Fund (WMF). The Program provides an incentive for the lawful harvest of coyotes and wolves within the County during the approved program period. Reducing predator numbers is intended to help limit livestock losses, support farm and ranch viability, and assist producers in managing ongoing predation risks.

The 2026 intake will run from February 1 to April 1 and offers $20 per coyote and/or $75 per wolf. Intake may terminate at an earlier date, subject to budget limitations or abuse of the program.

How can I qualify for the incentive program?

Participants for this program must:

  • Be a resident of a community within the boundary of the County of St. Paul No. 19;
  • Lawfully harvest eligible species within the County during the approved program period;
  • Provide the legal land location where the animals were harvested in the application form;
  • Comply with all requirements and procedures under the Predator Management Incentive Program guidelines;
  • Comply with all applicable federal and provincial legislation and regulations, including the Wildlife Act, Firearms Act, Petty Trespass Act, and Alberta Hunting Regulations; and
  • Provide all required participant, harvest, and payment information at the time of submission.

Animals harvested outside the boundaries of the County or submitted by individuals who do not meet residency requirements are not eligible for incentive payment.

Landowners may permit a trapper to trap on their land and collect the incentive for it. Participants are expected to hunt and access land respectfully, and to obtain proper landowner permission where required. This information can be noted on the application form.

How do I receive the incentive?

Participants must schedule a verification appointment with the County’s Agricultural Services department and present eligible coyote or wolf carcasses in order to receive payment.

  • Appointments will be at the Public Works Shop located at 5618 57 Street, St. Paul. Animals brought in without an appointment will not be accepted.
  • Animals must be whole and unskinned. Pelts alone are not eligible.
  • Animals must be transported in a safe and respectful manner, and covered by a tarp or other suitable means during transport.

Agricultural Services staff will conduct verification and may retain identifying information for record keeping purposes. Following verification, staff will coordinate payment following the County’s accounts payable standards, and the carcass(es) and any retained parts will be returned to the participant. The participant is responsible for the proper disposal of the carcass(es).

Payment will only be issued for eligible animals that meet all program requirements and for which the information provided can be verified.

We encourage those interested in participating in the program to review the Predator Management Incentive Program Guidelines before any harvesting takes place to ensure you are eligible for the program.

If eligible, prior to your verification appointment, we suggest downloading and completing the application form to bring with you, to facilitate a smoother process.
