Beaver Reduction Incentive Program open for the 2024 Fall Season
The County of St. Paul is offering the Beaver Reduction Incentive Program to County landowners who are experiencing flooding of their land or surrounding roadways due to beaver activity.
The County will pay an incentive of $15 per beaver harvested between September 3 and October 31. To take part in the program, pre-register by appointment! Call 780-645-3006 to book an appointment with County Agriculture Staff.
How can I qualify for the incentive program?
Applicants for this program must:
- Be a farmland owner in the County of St. Paul.
- Pre-register with the County’s Agriculture Staff.
- Receive approval for each piece/parcel of land (approval may take up to 5 business days).
Only pre-registered and approved applicants will qualify for the beaver incentive program.
Landowners may permit a trapper to trap their land and collect the incentive for it.
How is the land approved?
Pieces of land will be assessed for verifiable beaver population based on the following criteria:
a) Up to 10 beavers per approved piece/parcel, per year, that has a body of water on it with a verifiable beaver population.
b) Up to 30 beavers per approved piece/parcel, per year, that has a creek or stream on it with a verifiable beaver population.
How do I receive the incentive?
Applicants must bring whole, untouched beaver tails to the Public Works Shop (5618 57 Street, St. Paul) for the incentive program. Beaver tails brought in without an appointment will not be accepted. When booking the appointment to bring in the tails, the applicant must inform County Agriculture Staff of the location of the cull.
The program may terminate at an earlier date, subject to budget limitations or abuse of the program. Incentive payment would then not be provided, even if the tails are brought in by October 31.
