EPCOR lifts water ban

The County of St. Paul is notifying residents that EPCOR has completed the critical repairs of the E.L Smith Water Treatment Plant, ending the ban on non-essential water use.

Residents receiving treated EPCOR water in the hamlets of Ashmont, Lottie Lake, and Mallaig sourced through the Highway 28/63 commission were asked to halt non-essential water use and limit essential water use, beginning January 30, 2024.

The water ban was expected to be in place until mid-day February 4, 2024, based on the estimated repairs needed. The ban was lifted earlier than expected, with repairs completed and stabilization of the water distribution network established mid-day February 2.

Since the ban was put in place, more than 100 million litres of water were conserved with the efforts of over 90 municipalities. This relieved stress on the system, ensuring essential water supply was unaffected, with no interruption to fire protection and drinking water services.

Thank to you all residents for coming together at this time to ensure the continued safe supply of water to our communities.
