Opt Out of the Roadside Spray Program
The County of St. Paul Agricultural Service Board will start their Roadside Spray Program in May. The program takes place annually, spraying roadsides to control noxious weeds and brush growth along Municipal Road Allowances (i.e. ditch areas from County roads up to a property line), in accordance with the Weed Control Act.
Property owners of farms and acreages concerned about herbicide use near their land may prefer to manage weeds and brush along their roadside property themselves. In these instances, property owners must complete a Weed & Brush Control Agreement before April 30 to opt out of the Roadside Spray Program.
This program follows the County’s Do Not Spray Policy (ASB-10). Read the full policy here.
What do I need to do to opt out of the program?
- Pick up a Weed & Brush Control Agreement form at the Public Works shop (5618 57 Street, St. Paul) or download it from here.
- Book an appointment with an ASB staff member by calling 780-645-3006.
- Drop off your completed agreement in person at Public Works. Agreements must be reviewed and approved during your appointment.
I already have signs, can I just put them up?
A new Weed & Brush Control Agreement is required every year—No Spray signs alone are not enough to exempt you from the program.
At your appointment, ASB staff will confirm if the signs you already have can be reused or if they will provide you with new signs.
What do I need to do once I have opted out?
Once your agreement is approved, post your “No Spray” signs in the agreed-upon road allowance area by May 15.
With the agreement in place, it is the responsibility of the property owner to control all the weeds and brush within the posted area by July 1. If problem weeds and brush aren’t managed as per the agreement (e.g. regularly mowed), the County may intervene with control measures, which can include spraying the area.
Sign up by April 30 to opt out of roadside spraying! For more information and to make an appointment, please contact County ASB staff at 780-645-3006.
