Reducing Potential Sewer Overload, rain in Mallaig
With heavy rains expected for the June 27-28 weekend, the County is calling on Mallaig residents to pre-emptively assist with managing the sewer levels to help keep the system from overloading.
The biggest help to the system is ensuring that sump pumps are discharged into storm drains rather than the sewer. Other small adjustments you can make in your home include:
- Turning off water while soaping hands, brushing teeth, etc.
- Run appliances (i.e. dishwashers and washing machines) only when the load is full. Alternatively, use recyclable plates/cutlery instead and wear non-soiled clothing more than once before washing.
- Limit shower times and avoid baths, if possible.
