Beaver Reduction Incentive Program open for the 2026 Spring Season

The County of St. Paul is offering the Beaver Reduction Incentive Program to County landowners, in accordance with Policy ASB-14, for the lawful removal of beavers impacting County infrastructure.

The County will pay an incentive of $15 per beaver harvested between April 15 and June 30.

To take part in the program, complete the application form and pre-register by appointment. Call 780-645-3006 (press 5) to book an appointment with County Agriculture Staff.

What do you mean by impacted infrastructure?

Impacted County infrastructure due to beaver activity can include blocked culverts, flooding affecting roads or approaches, damage or risk to roads, bridges, or drainage works, or other access issues related to infrastructure.

How can I qualify for the incentive program?

Applicants for this program must:

  • Be a land owner in the County of St. Paul.
  • Pre-register with the County’s Agriculture Staff.
  • Receive approval for each piece/parcel of land (approval may take up to 5 business days).

Only pre-registered and approved applicants will qualify for the Beaver Incentive Program.

Landowners may permit a trapper to trap on their land and collect the incentive for it. This information can be noted on the program application form.

How is the land approved?

Pieces of land will be assessed for verifiable beaver population based on the following criteria:

  1. Up to 10 beavers per approved piece/parcel, per year, that has a body of water on it with a verifiable beaver population.
  2. Up to 30 beavers per approved piece/parcel, per year, that has a creek or stream on it with a verifiable beaver population.

How do I receive the incentive?

Applicants must bring whole, untouched beaver tails to the Public Works Shop (5618 57 Street, St. Paul) for the incentive program. Beaver tails brought in without an appointment will not be accepted.

When booking the appointment to bring in the tails, the applicant must inform County Agriculture Staff of the location of the cull.

The program may terminate at an earlier date, subject to budget limitations or abuse of the program. Incentive payment would then not be provided, even if the tails are brought in by June 30.
